Addison's Final Results

What a fantastic weekend it was for Addison and all of her family and friends that joined her on this once-in-a-lifetime event. Her weekend was filled with excitement. First she won the Coca-Cola Champions Challenge with partner Jeff Sluman, she attended several events that were put on for these wonderful junior golfers, and then was partnered with Mark O'Meara for the next two days of play. How cool is that!

Friday Group 1 began at Pebble Beach. The greens were incredibly fast, in fact they were reporting them the fastest that the pros had ever seen. Most of Pebble Beach Golf Course is sand traps, and difficult to avoid, add a wind and you were bound to end up there.  Addison found some of those sand traps but she was in good company, most of the players had similar experiences as well as the pros. Toward the end of the day the temperatures dropped and the wind picked up making the last 6 holes more difficult. Her team ended the day with a +1/73.

Group 2 players at the Del Monte course had wonderful conditions on Friday and were scoring very well giving them the advantage to those who spent the first tournament day at Pebble Beach.

Group 1, Saturday golf began at Del Monte and it was a much better golf day for Addison's team ending with a -6 for a 66. Group 2 at Pebble Beach had much better weather conditions with no wind giving the golfers about a 2 hole advantage to the players the day before.  By the end of the day the it was evident that many of Group 2 was going to the final round on Sunday.

The junior players were an impressive bunch.  These players were 15-18 and had a fantastic opportunity to see who their competition is going to be in the future PGA and LPGA. It really does lend itself to players focus when they see the quality of players coming up in the ranks. I was so impressed with what I saw in the interviews and how The First Tee program has really made a difference in these player's lives.  The focus on core principles gives these kids a wonderful advantage in not only the golf field but for school and future careers. I am very happy a program like this exists.

Out of the girls Addison was 11th out of 24.  We are so very proud of Addison, and it is such a privilege to know Addison and watch her achieve her dreams through the sport of golf and all the other extracurricular activities she is involved in (which are many). She is not only talented but truly blessed.

Thanks to all of you who followed her this weekend during this special event.

Team Addison finished -6 at Del Monte

We are still waiting on final results, but Addison and Mark O'Meara finished today with a -6. There are still some players finishing so we won't have final results for a few more hours.

Stay tuned!

Friday's Final Score for the Day

Addison's team finished with a 73.  FANTASTIC ADDISON!

We had the opportunity to watch her on the Golf Channel and watch her for a few strokes.  I wish we could have seen more of her, but perhaps tomorrow.  I was very impressed with all the junior players. In fact many of them ended up with better scores than the Pro players. The junior players fearlessly attacked the course which was fun to see.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow.  Addison will be playing the Del Monte course which isn't as challenging as Pebble Beach. So the scores will start to level out tomorrow showing the true placement of the players.

One thing I don't like is waiting for the leader board to update. I'm not a patient person so it was torture constantly checking for updates.  Hopefully I can convince Cameron to text me the results of each hole as they happen during tomorrows play.

I'm waiting on pictures from the events of the day and as soon as they are sent to me I'll get them posted.

GREAT JOB ADDISON!!!! Can't wait to see more!

ADDISON IS AT -2 YEAHHHHH

She's doing well so far her -2 has just moved up the ranking 20 pts. This  was the 6th hole and she is currently tied for 33rd. Have the players are in.

She's doing great.  If she pulls off a -4 she'll be riding on the top.

Fifth Hole Finished

Addison Mitchell is holding Par after hole 5.

Addison is holding Par

Addison's first drive was straight down the fairway. She is holding at par. Mark O'Meara is also even.

Cameron can text updates but so  far I've only received one.  I'm sure he is caught up in the play.

Keep watching.  Here is the Junior Leaderboard link:

Today's Golf Format at Nature Valley First Tee Open in Pebble Beach

I've pulled this information from www.firstteeopen.com website and then added definitions for those of us who are less familiar with the golf game and common words and phrases.

The event will be LIVE on the golf channel at 5:30-7:30pm CST today through Sunday. I'm hoping that after Addison's Coca Cola Champions Competition win yesterday that it may have created interest in her and they will show her playing. Look for the very TALL, BEAUTIFUL BLONDE, BLUE EYED girl with the cute bow. That will be Addison!

Today's Event: Legends of the Game Team Up With Generation Next

The Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach is a 54-hole golf event, the first of its kind, featuring 81 Champions Tour players and 81 junior golfers ages 15-18. In addition to the Champions Tour players and juniors, 162 amateurs complete the field. The tournament is played on Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course.

Field: 81 Champions Tour players / 81 juniors from throughout the country selected by The First Tee / 162 amateurs

Purse: $1,800,000

Today's Golf Format

Professionals play all rounds; Junior/Pro teams play ‘gross best ball’; Amateur teams play ‘net best ball’ of foursome

Definition: "Gross," or "gross score" in golf refers to the total number of strokes taken during your round of golf, plus any penalty strokes. In other words, your total score without adjustments: add up the numbers on your scorecard at the end of the round, and that's your gross score.

When "gross score" is used it is usually with in conjunction with or in contrast to net score.

Examples: "My gross score was 92." "I had a gross score of 92 but a net score of 76."

An Exciting Day for Addison Mitchell

I spoke to Addison tonight and she said she feels terrific.

After winning the Coca Cola Challenge she received the bouquet of roses and was accompanied by some young attendants carrying the name signs. Addison gave each of the girls a rose.

Tonight Addison attends the Legends and Leaders Dinner. Meanwhile her entourage of Cam and DiAnna Mitchell (parents),  Nana (maternal  grandmother),  Jim & Lil Mitchell (paternal grandparents), Jody & Blain Nelson (aunt and uncle), and two cousins of her Nana,  Mark Curlett (Coach/Caddy) and his wife, all recharge their telephones, get some dinner, and relive the excitement of the day. They are very proud and overjoyed with the results so far.

Tomorrow is another day of excitement and anticipation. So keep checking back.

Don't forget to SHARE and LIKE this blog.

Thank you!
Jaymie (Addison's very proud aunt)

her pairing with Mark O'Meara Pro Golfer

Addison Paired with Pro Golfer Mark O'Meara

Last night the junior players met the golf pro they were paired with. Mark O'Meara was chosen (pictured here with Addison). He will be a tremendous asset for Addison during this tournament. Having played Pebble Beach on numerous occasions he will have valuable insight to share. That is the beauty of this event. Each of the junior players are given the opportunity to work one-on-one with a golf pro. Below is Mark O'Meara's career accomplishments.

Background on Mark O'Meara

(From Wikipedia)
Mark Francis O'Meara (born January 13, 1957) is an American professional golfer who was a prolific tournament winner on the PGA Tour and around the world from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. He spent nearly 200 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking from their debut in 1986 to 2000.

Early years

O'Meara was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, but grew up in southern California in Mission Viejo. He took up golf at age 13, sneaking on to the nearby Mission Viejo Country Club. O'Meara later became an employee of the club and played on his high school golf team. He was an All-American at Long Beach State, and won the U.S. Amateur in 1979, defeating John Cook. He also won the California State Amateur Championship that year.

PGA Tour

After graduating with a degree in marketing in 1980, O'Meara turned professional and would win 16 events on the PGA Tour, beginning with the Greater Milwaukee Open in 1984. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am five times, but he passed his 41st birthday in January 1998 without having won a major championship as a professional.

In a late finale to his PGA Tour winning career, O'Meara won two majors in 1998, The Masters and the British Open. O'Meara's victory in the The Masters came at his 15th attempt, which is still a record.[2] O'Meara attributed this resurgence partly to the inspiration of working with Tiger Woods, the new superstar of the game at the time, with whom O'Meara had become good friends.[3] In the same year he won the Cisco World Match Play Championship and he reached a career best of second in the Official World Golf Ranking.

O'Meara is known for competing outside the United States more often than most leading American golfers, and has won tournaments in Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. A man with a genial demeanor, he is one of the most popular figures in international golf. In the new millennium his form took a downturn and he began to struggle with injuries, but in 2004 he won an official tour event for the first time since 1998, taking the Dubai Desert Classic title, which despite being played in the Middle East is a European Tour event.

Champion Tour

In 2007, O'Meara began play on the Champions Tour; he had many top-10 finishes in his first three seasons including several runner-up finishes, but no wins. In 2010, he broke through with a win in the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf with Nick Price, followed by his first senior major victory in the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship. O'Meara was sidelined by a rib injury for several months starting in April 2012; he missed the majors on both tours and did not compete until August.[4][5]
O'Meara has begun to develop a golf course design practice and enjoys fishing in his off time. He is currently a brand ambassador for Pacific Links International.

Today's Practice

Addison with Cameron as her caddy and Christian Griffith with Coach Chris as his Caddy, played 18 holes at Del Monte Golf Course this morning. She and Christian went over to Pebble Beach to tee off at 1:00pm for their practice round and will get as many holes in as possible until 4:00pm.  Addison has another event to attend this evening so she is one busy girl.

Pray for stamina!

Cameron said “She’s doing Great!”
